Archaeologists Discover Ancient Amulet That Could Alter Christianity's Historical Timeline
Archaeologists have uncovered an 1,800-year-old silver amulet in a grave near Frankfurt, Germany, which may significantly alter the historical understanding of Christianity's spread in the Roman Empire. The amulet, found in a grave dating between 230 and 270 A.D., contains an 18-line Latin inscription, making it the oldest evidence of Christianity north of the Alps. This discovery, known as 'The Frankfurt Inscription,' predates other Christian artifacts in the region by at least 50 years. The amulet was found in a Roman cemetery and was initially too fragile to unroll. However, advanced computer tomography allowed researchers to create a 3D model and decipher the text, which includes references to Saint Titus and phrases from Christian liturgy.
