Born in Fayetteville, West Virginia, Gaines had a distinguished career in business, notably leading an investor group to purchase and grow GNB, Inc. into a major power company. He was also a dedicated philanthropist, supporting organizations like Students In Free Enterprise and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Gaines was a strong supporter of conservative Republican candidates and was involved in several prestigious clubs. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
