Brooklyn Org's Shift in Philanthropy Doubles Donor-Advised Funds and Boosts Community Engagement
Brooklyn Org, formerly known as the Brooklyn Community Foundation, has successfully doubled its donor-advised funds and significantly increased its contributed revenue and assets under management by reimagining its approach to philanthropy. The organization shifted from a transactional model to a more participatory and community-focused approach. This change involved engaging with community members as partners rather than just prospects, listening to their needs, and acting on their feedback. From 2019 to 2025, the number of donor-advised funds doubled, contributed revenue grew from $2.4 million to $28.8 million, and assets under management increased from $74.5 million to $146.8 million. This transformation allowed Brooklyn Org to increase its total grant-making from $7.4 million to $19.5 million, supporting neighborhood-led initiatives and hosting public forums to connect residents with decision-makers.
