ICE Raids at Home Depot Locations Spark Protests and Activist Interventions
In recent months, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has intensified its operations at Home Depot locations across the United States, leading to significant clashes with protesters. These raids target undocumented workers who gather in Home Depot parking lots seeking day labor opportunities, a practice known as 'shaping up.' This has turned Home Depot into a focal point for deportation activities, resulting in numerous detentions since the summer. In response, activists, including New York City socialists, have been organizing patrol teams to monitor and interfere with ICE operations. These teams, inspired by tactics used in California, aim to document and disrupt ICE activities by positioning themselves at strategic locations and using video recording as a deterrent.
