Chief of Staff to Texas Congressman Charged with Bringing Gun into US Capitol
Luis Angel Vega, the chief of staff for Texas Republican Congressman Pete Sessions, has been charged with carrying a firearm into the US Capitol complex. According to court documents, Vega allegedly brought a pistol and ammunition through security in December without a license to carry. Vega reportedly told Capitol Police that he usually enters the building with Rep. Sessions, who is exempt from security screening. The incident came to light when Capitol security officers discovered the firearm during a security check at a House office building. Vega was instructed to secure the weapon in his car and return for a re-screening, which he complied with. The charges against Vega include carrying a gun outside his home without a license and bringing a firearm onto Capitol grounds. Vega is expected to appear in DC Superior Court to address these charges.
