Morocco Confirms Social Media Campaign Behind Ceuta Migrant Surge
The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior has confirmed that a coordinated social media campaign contributed to the recent mass migration into the Spanish city of Ceuta. The campaign, which spread across platforms like TikTok, WhatsApp, and Facebook, falsely encouraged people to attempt the crossing by suggesting it was easy and without legal consequences. The surge saw over 50,000 people entering Ceuta, with many returning to Morocco shortly after. The campaign was traced to profiles in Algeria, Tunisia, France, and the US, and involved misleading information and human trafficking networks. Moroccan authorities are investigating to identify those responsible.
