Booking.com Reports Surge in U.S. Domestic Travel Demand for Summer 2026
Booking.com has reported a significant increase in domestic travel demand within the United States for the summer of 2026. According to the data, accommodation searches have risen by 21% year-over-year, while flight searches have increased by 29%. This trend is being driven by a growing preference for city breaks and shorter domestic trips. Major cities such as Austin, Boston, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco are experiencing notable increases in travel interest. Austin, in particular, has seen a 423% rise in accommodation searches, attributed to its vibrant live music scene and events calendar. Meanwhile, traditional summer destinations like Miami and Orlando continue to attract travelers, with both cities recording a 43% increase in accommodation searches. The data suggests a shift towards more flexible, experience-focused travel, with Americans opting for domestic trips that maximize long weekends and cultural experiences.
