Jewish Nonprofits Support LGBTQ Relocation to Safer States Amid Rising Legislation
In response to increasing anti-LGBTQ legislation across the United States, two Jewish nonprofits, Keshet and the Hebrew Free Loan Society, have launched 'Move to Thrive,' a program providing interest-free loans to LGBTQ individuals seeking to relocate to safer states. Since its inception in March 2025, the initiative has received over 400 inquiries and approved 29 applications, disbursing $274,500 in loans. The program aims to help individuals move from states with restrictive laws, such as Texas and Arkansas, to more welcoming environments like Massachusetts and Illinois. The initiative reflects a broader concern within the Jewish community about the safety and well-being of LGBTQ individuals.
