Severe Storms and Heat Wave to Impact Northeast, Including New York City
A significant weather event is set to impact the Northeast, including major cities like New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., on Thursday and Friday. According to the FOX Forecast Center, a Level 2 out of 5 severe storm threat has been issued for the Mid-Atlantic region and the Hudson Valley. The combination of record heat, high humidity, and an approaching cold front is expected to trigger severe thunderstorms. These storms may bring damaging wind gusts, heavy rainfall, large hail, and even the possibility of isolated tornadoes. Daytime heating and dew points climbing into the upper 60s will contribute to the instability, increasing the likelihood of severe weather. Over 50 million Americans are under this storm risk, with temperatures forecasted to surge 10 to 15 degrees above average. New York City is also under a heat advisory, with heat indices expected to reach the upper 90s to low 100s °F (37-38°C).
