PETA Alleges Neglect and Sanitation Violations at Sauder's Eggs Supplier Farm
PETA has filed complaints with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the Pennsylvania State Police following a whistleblower report detailing alleged animal cruelty, sanitation violations, and food-safety risks at Shady Brae Farms, a supplier to Sauder's Eggs. The whistleblower described finding dead cats, some believed to be poisoned, and hens suffering in feces-filled pits for months. The report also claims workers left rotting bird corpses among living animals and that over 3,000 birds died during a heatwave due to delayed ventilation adjustments. Other allegations include injured hens left to suffer, birds without food for extended periods due to broken feed lines, severe overcrowding in cages, and sheds infested with mice, black mold, and malfunctioning equipment that led to a fire killing dozens of chickens. Eggs were reportedly left unrefrigerated, unwashed, or unshipped for days, and disinfectant powder was rarely used.
