Sam Tunick, an American citizen, has been charged by the U.S. Department of Justice for allegedly erasing his phone's contents during a search by federal agents at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Tunick reportedly used a feature of GrapheneOS, a privacy-focused operating system, to wipe his phone using a 'duress password'. The case is significant as it involves a federal law that prohibits destroying property to prevent its seizure by authorities. Tunick's lawyers argue that the search was a pretext for investigating his connections to the Stop Cop City movement, rather than the alleged child exploitation images.
