Cyberattacks Target Water Systems Across Multiple U.S. States
A series of cyberattacks have targeted water and wastewater systems in at least seven U.S. states, prompting federal authorities to issue warnings and investigate the incidents. The FBI and EPA have reported that malicious actors have disrupted operations by altering settings on industrial equipment, leading to operational disruptions and potential vulnerabilities in public services. States like Minnesota, Michigan, South Dakota, and California have reported incidents, with Minnesota experiencing over 30 attacks. The attacks have raised concerns about the security of critical infrastructure and the potential involvement of foreign actors.
