Harvard's Faculty of Arts and Sciences Restructuring Leads to Significant Staff Layoffs
Harvard University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) has implemented a significant restructuring process, resulting in the layoff of approximately 13% of its College staff. This marks the largest wave of job changes to date, affecting 36 employees who were informed of their layoffs in recent meetings. Additionally, 28 employees were offered the choice between a changed role or a layoff. The restructuring has unfolded in five phases, with previous rounds affecting senior leaders and lead administrators. The current phase has broadly impacted rank-and-file staff across Harvard College. The restructuring process is being tracked through disclosures mandated by the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act, which requires employers to provide affected workers with a list of ages and job titles of employees selected for termination.
