Bezos and DiCaprio's $200M Species Project Faces Greenwashing Allegations
Jeff Bezos and Leonardo DiCaprio have launched the Phoenix Species Project, a $200 million initiative aimed at conserving 100 threatened species. The project, backed by the Bezos Earth Fund and DiCaprio's Re:wild, promises to fund breeding programs, habitat restoration, and conservation efforts. However, the initiative has been criticized for potentially serving as a greenwashing effort, distracting from the environmental impact of Amazon and other associated businesses. Critics argue that while the project may have positive outcomes, it does not offset the environmental damage caused by Amazon's operations, such as plastic pollution and deforestation. The Bezos Earth Fund has committed $100 million to the project, with the rest provided by Re:wild and other partners.
