Sanmar Shipyards and Med Tugs to Enhance Mediterranean Fleet with New Tugboats
Sanmar Shipyards and Med Tugs have entered a strategic agreement to construct and deliver two new tugboats, enhancing the maritime capabilities at the Port of Piraeus, Greece. The joint venture, SVS, involves Vernicos Scafi, Spanopoulos, and Lyboussakis. The tugboats, scheduled for delivery in September 2026 and September 2027, are designed to meet the demands of one of Europe's busiest ports. They will feature advanced hull configurations from the RAstar range, designed by Robert Allan Ltd., and will include dual CAT 3516E engines that comply with IMO Tier III emission standards. The vessels will also be equipped with firefighting capabilities and advanced towing equipment.
