U.S. Coast Guard Expands Presence in Birmingham with First Training Center Graduation
The U.S. Coast Guard marked a significant milestone in its expanding presence in Birmingham, Alabama, with the graduation of 29 members from the first Leadership and Management School class at Training Center Birmingham-Southern. This event, held on Friday, comes just two months after the official opening of the training center on the former Birmingham-Southern College campus. Captain Jacob McMillan highlighted the rapid progress, stating that the Coast Guard is already fulfilling its training mission. Currently, 44 FORCECOM personnel are working full-time in Birmingham as the relocation from Virginia and Connecticut continues. The Coast Guard is adopting a phased approach to transform the campus, utilizing approximately 15 buildings so far, with ongoing work to bring additional spaces online. This initiative aims to establish Birmingham as a key center for Coast Guard leadership training.
