HBCUs Form New Association to Enhance Research Collaboration and Funding
A coalition of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) has launched the Association of HBCU Research Institutions. This new association includes 14 HBCUs with R-2 status, indicating high research activity, and Howard University, the only HBCU with R-1 status, denoting very high research activity. The association aims to advance research at HBCUs by improving research infrastructure, securing funding, recruiting scholars, and expanding student research opportunities. The initiative is supported by a three-year, $1 million grant from the Harvard & the Legacy of Slavery Initiative and technical assistance from Harvard University. The launch coincided with the association's first research symposium at Howard University, emphasizing HBCUs' role in research and innovation.
