Mandatory Water Restrictions Begin in Charlotte Area Amid Extreme Drought
Mandatory water restrictions will take effect starting Friday in the Charlotte area due to ongoing extreme drought conditions. According to Charlotte Water, residents are being asked to limit lawn and landscape watering to two days per week. Odd-numbered addresses may water on Tuesdays and Saturdays, while even-numbered addresses are restricted to Wednesdays and Sundays. Additional measures include a ban on washing cars at home, operating decorative water fountains, and pressure-washing surfaces. Violations of these restrictions will result in fines starting at $100. Similar measures are being implemented in nearby cities such as Concord and Kannapolis, where restrictions also prohibit washing public buildings, sidewalks, and streets unless required for safety or health reasons. While recent rainfall has slightly improved conditions, over half of North Carolina remains classified as being in extreme drought.
