Welsh Government Increases Funding for Traveler Energy Costs Amid Public Outcry
The Welsh Government has increased its support package for travelers living on council-run sites to £600,000 for the 2026/27 financial year, a 20 percent rise from the initial £500,000. This funding is intended to cover energy costs for these communities, as many do not have domestic electricity supplies and rely on councils for provision. The initiative, part of the wider 'Anti-racist Wales Action Plan,' aims to support vulnerable people with the cost of living and ensure safe living conditions. The plan also includes provisions for digital inclusivity, such as free SIM cards and digital skills training. This move has sparked controversy, particularly among those who point to the struggles of pensioners and other citizens facing rising energy bills.
