Nigeria Faces Challenges in Enforcing Paraquat Herbicide Ban
Despite Nigeria's ban on paraquat-based herbicides, these products remain available in the market, as revealed by the Paraquat Watch Nigeria Project (PWNP) 2026 Report. The report, conducted by the Agrocentric Creativity Initiative Platform for Agricultural Awareness Amongst Youths (ACIPAAY), found paraquat products in 19 retail outlets across several Nigerian regions. These products, manufactured in China and Ghana, continue to be sold despite regulatory measures. The report highlights the need for effective enforcement of agricultural regulations and provides scientific recommendations to support sustainable agriculture and policy implementation.
