Consumer Reports Reveals Top Sunscreens for 2026: Coppertone Water Babies Lotion Leads
Consumer Reports has released its 2026 sunscreen ratings after testing over 100 products, including lotions and sprays. The tests evaluated SPF (sun protection factor) by applying sunscreen to small skin areas and exposing them to UVB rays, which cause sunburn and contribute to skin cancer. Water-resistant products were also tested after an 80-minute soak. UVA protection, which guards against skin aging and cancer, was assessed by measuring UV light penetration through sunscreen-coated plates. Notably, many products did not meet their labeled SPF values, but Consumer Reports emphasized that any sunscreen is better than none. This year, Coppertone Water Babies Lotion SPF 50 received a perfect score, while Eucerin Advanced Hydration Spray SPF 50 topped the spray category. Lotions were highlighted for their ease of application and even coverage, while sprays were noted for convenience but potential application challenges.
