Nigeria Commences Local Production of Advanced Mosquito Nets to Combat Malaria
Health Textiles Nigeria FZE, a new manufacturing facility, has begun operations in Nigeria, marking a significant step in the fight against malaria. This facility, wholly owned by Vestergaard Sàrl, a global leader in malaria prevention, is the first in Nigeria to produce dual-active ingredient insecticide-treated mosquito nets (ITNs). These nets, specifically PermaNet® Dual, are designed to combat insecticide resistance and received prequalification from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2023. The WHO has also recognized Health Textiles Nigeria as a Vestergaard production site. At full capacity, the facility is projected to produce 10 million nets annually and create over 600 jobs. This initiative stems from a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2024 between Vestergaard and Nigeria's Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC), aiming to strengthen local production capacity and establish Nigeria as West Africa's first manufacturing hub for these advanced mosquito nets.
