UK Businesses Urged to Prepare for Changes in U.S. De Minimis Rules
UK businesses exporting goods to the U.S. are being advised to review their logistics processes in light of significant changes to U.S. customs rules. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced new informal postal entry requirements following the suspension of the $800 de minimis exemption for low-value shipments. The new Entry Type 13 system aims to align postal shipments with other import channels, collecting duty revenue and improving data for screening admissibility and intellectual property issues. These changes, effective July 24, 2026, end longstanding duty exemptions for international postal parcels and require detailed Harmonised Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes and comprehensive product descriptions for shipments.
