Ukraine Seeks OECD Nuclear Energy Agency Membership to Enhance Nuclear Sector and Share Wartime Experience
Ukraine is formally applying to join the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This move is part of a broader strategy to advance the country's nuclear sector, strengthen Western partnerships, and leverage its unique wartime experience in nuclear and radiation safety. Ukraine's Minister of Energy, Denys Shmyhal, announced this during the Ministerial Conference 'Roadmaps to New Nuclear Energy 2026' in Paris. Shmyhal emphasized that Ukraine's nuclear energy sector has gained unparalleled experience over more than four years of full-scale war, particularly in protecting energy infrastructure and phasing out Russian nuclear fuel.
