Justice Department Sues Denver Over Alleged Unconstitutional Weapons Ban
The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against the City of Denver, Colorado, challenging its ban on certain semi-automatic rifles, which the DOJ claims violates the Second Amendment. The lawsuit argues that Denver's ordinance, which criminalizes the possession of so-called 'assault weapons' including AR-15-style rifles, infringes on the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche emphasized that the Second Amendment is a fundamental right, and the DOJ is committed to defending it. The lawsuit is part of a broader effort by the DOJ's Civil Rights Division to protect Second Amendment rights across the country.
