Senator Kaine Criticizes U.S. Military Strikes for Potentially Killing Non-Drug Traffickers
Senator Tim Kaine has raised concerns about U.S. military operations targeting alleged drug boats, suggesting that these strikes may have resulted in the deaths of individuals not involved in drug trafficking. In a letter to President Trump, Kaine described these individuals as 'murder victims' and called for a review of the strikes, which are part of 'Operation Southern Spear.' This campaign, initiated in September, has led to the destruction of 67 vessels and the deaths of at least 221 people. The administration has classified those killed as 'unlawful combatants,' allowing for lethal strikes without judicial review. However, Kaine argues that the strikes extend beyond the legal parameters set by the Justice Department. The White House defends the operations as necessary to combat narcoterrorism.
