Congresswoman Pou Urges United Airlines to Reconsider Newark-Lima Flight Cancellation
Congresswoman Nellie Pou (D-NJ-09), Vice Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Aviation, has formally requested United Airlines to reconsider its decision to eliminate nonstop service between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) in Lima, Peru. United Airlines announced earlier this month that this long-standing route, which has been operational since 1996, will cease on March 27, 2027. The airline plans to double its Houston-Lima service to two daily flights once the Newark route is discontinued. Congresswoman Pou highlighted the significant impact this cancellation would have on New Jersey's large Peruvian-American community, which heavily relies on this direct service for family connections, business, and tourism. She emphasized that ending the route could lead to fewer travel choices and increased costs for travelers.
