Wavelet Medical and Aegis Ventures Launch AI-Powered Fetal EEG Monitoring Platform to Improve Birth Outcomes
Wavelet Medical and Aegis Ventures have partnered to develop the first noninvasive AI-powered fetal electroencephalography (EEG) monitoring platform. This innovative device aims to reduce preventable brain injuries at birth and decrease unnecessary Cesarean sections, thereby improving maternal-fetal outcomes. The current standard, fetal heart rate monitoring, often leads to increased interventions without improving outcomes. The new platform detects fetal brain signals through sensors on an abdomen belt, providing real-time data on fetal distress. The technology, developed at Yale University, is currently being tested at multiple clinical sites, including Yale University and LA General Hospital. The platform has shown promising early results, with EEG accuracy comparable to post-birth infant monitoring.
