Study Finds Longer Walks More Beneficial for Heart Health Than Shorter Walks
A recent study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine has revealed that longer walks, lasting at least 15 minutes, are more beneficial for heart health compared to shorter walks. The study followed over 33,000 adults for eight years and found that those who engaged in longer walks had a lower risk of heart disease and premature death. Borja del Pozo Cruz, a professor at the European University of Madrid, emphasized that longer walks activate cardio-protective mechanisms, which are particularly beneficial for sedentary individuals. While shorter walks do offer health benefits, they may not provide the same intensity and volume of exercise needed for optimal heart health.
