Trump Administration Launches 'Freedom Haulers' to Support Veterans in Trucking Industry
The Trump administration has launched the 'Freedom Haulers' initiative, aimed at transitioning veterans into commercial driving roles. Announced by President Trump at a White House event, the campaign involves multiple federal agencies and industry partners, including Werner Enterprises. The initiative extends the Military Skills Test Waiver, allowing veterans with two years of safe heavy-vehicle experience to bypass the CDL road test, and expands the Even Exchange program to more states. The campaign also directs veterans without heavy-vehicle experience to state- and VA-approved CDL training programs, with the VA covering up to 100% of training costs for eligible veterans.
