Uber Expands Senior Account Features for Enhanced Accessibility and Customization
Uber has announced an expansion of its senior accounts, introducing new features designed to provide older adults with more choice and customization in their ride experience. Previously, senior accounts required linking to a 'family organizer,' but now older adults can create and manage their own accounts independently. Key additions include a 'simple mode' with larger text and clearer icons for easier app navigation, and 'pickup preferences' allowing riders to specify how drivers should signal their arrival (e.g., calling, messaging, or honking). Seniors also have the option to self-identify as an older adult to drivers, providing additional context before pickup. Furthermore, Uber is piloting an 'easy-entry vehicle' feature in nine cities, which aims to connect riders with lower step-in height vehicles to assist those with reduced mobility, including seniors and individuals with disabilities. This pilot was developed with input from accessibility and aging advocates.
