Record Solar Power Generation Achieved Across Europe in May
Several European countries set new daily solar power generation records in late May 2026, according to AleaSoft Energy Forecasting. Germany led with 503 GWh on May 28, followed by Spain with 265 GWh on May 29, France with 179 GWh on May 28, Italy with 161 GWh on May 26, and Portugal with 32 GWh on May 29. These milestones highlight the growing role of solar energy in Europe's energy mix as the Northern Hemisphere enters summer. Despite these achievements, some countries, including France, Portugal, and Spain, experienced week-on-week increases in electricity prices due to reduced wind energy production and higher demand. Solar and wind energy often complement each other, but fluctuations in one can impact overall energy costs.
