Albuquerque Police Charge Suspect in Fatal Shooting, Red Tesla Key to Arrest
Homicide detectives with the Albuquerque Police Department have charged Kwamie L’Shuan Williamson with the shooting death of Juan Lopez. The incident occurred on a Monday morning in the 100 block of San Pablo St. SE. According to a female witness, Williamson, driving a red Tesla, approached Lopez and the woman, exited his vehicle with a rifle-style firearm, and confronted Lopez before shooting him once in the chest. The ShotSpotter gunshot detection system registered a shot fired at 5:12 a.m. Lopez, 33, was transported to the hospital but later died from his injuries. The witness identified Williamson, alleging a history of harassment and robbery, which had forced her to relocate multiple times. Detectives utilized Automated License Plate Readers, surveillance video, phone data, text messages, witness statements, and recent police encounters to identify and track Williamson's red Tesla. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Southeast Albuquerque, leading to Williamson's arrest by SWAT officers.
