France is pushing for the imposition of expiry dates on waivers that permit Ukraine to use European Union-backed defense funds for purchasing non-European military equipment, specifically US Patriot interceptors and Chinese drone components. These exemptions are part of the €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan, with €60 billion earmarked for military procurement. The loan's regulations generally favor equipment manufactured in Ukraine, the EU, the European Economic Area, and other eligible partner countries, limiting components from outside these regions to 35% of a product's value.
