Detroit People Mover to Undergo Safety Upgrades and Explore Expansion Routes Following Mobility Study
The Detroit People Mover is set to implement safety, lighting, signage, and accessibility upgrades following a recently released mobility study. These improvements are prioritized for the nearly 40-year-old elevated rail system. Additionally, an alternative analysis is planned for 2027 to explore potential expansion routes and new rail cars. The study will consider extending routes to areas such as Michigan Central and Corktown via Michigan Avenue, the Stadium District and Eastern Market via Comerica Park and Ford Field, and the west riverfront connecting to Ralph C. Wilson Park and the proposed Detroit City Football Club stadium. Public input will be a crucial component of this analysis, with meetings planned to gather feedback from residents.
