Gianluca Rocchi Under Investigation for Alleged Sporting Fraud in Italian Football
Gianluca Rocchi, a referees designator in Italian football, is under investigation by the Milan Prosecutor's Office for allegedly exerting undue pressure on VAR and assistant VAR officials during the last two Serie A seasons. The investigation was triggered by a complaint from Domenico Rocca, a former assistant referee, who accused Rocchi of influencing officiating decisions. The controversy began with a letter sent to the Italian Referees Association (AIA) in May 2025, highlighting incidents from the 2024-25 season. A video has surfaced showing referee Daniele Paterna allegedly communicating with Rocchi during a match, raising suspicions of manipulation. The investigation is examining several matches, including a notable incident in the Udinese-Parma game, where a penalty decision was allegedly influenced by Rocchi.
