Court Orders Customer to Pay N44m for Breach of Contract with Law Firm in Wrongful Debit Case
A High Court in Port Harcourt has ruled against Benedicta Onwuamaegbu and her company, Madif Engineering Services Limited, for breaching a contract with the law firm Ntephe, Smith and Wills. The firm was hired to recover a wrongful debit of N220 million from Onwuamaegbu's account with Skyebank, now Polaris Bank. Despite initial cooperation, Onwuamaegbu and her company engaged in unauthorized attempts to recover the funds, which hindered the law firm's efforts. The court found that Onwuamaegbu's actions, including hiring another law firm without settling the agreed fees with Ntephe, Smith and Wills, constituted a breach of contract. Consequently, the court ordered Onwuamaegbu and her company to pay N44 million in professional fees to the law firm, along with interest.
