Europe Introduces Age Verification App to Enhance Online Safety for Young Users
The European Commission has launched a new age verification app designed to protect young people online. Announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the app provides a digital ID card for users to prove their age without sharing sensitive personal information. Users can upload a passport or ID card to verify their age, allowing tech platforms to confirm if a user meets age requirements without accessing their birthdate or other personal data. This initiative aims to address growing concerns about the impact of tech platforms on young users, following legal actions against companies like Meta and YouTube for harmful practices.
