CSU Channel Islands Hosts Discussion on Japanese American Incarceration at Agriculture Museum
The Museum of Ventura County's Agriculture Museum in Santa Paula will host a community conversation titled 'Enduring Voices: Local Impacts of the Japanese American Incarceration of World War II' on May 20. The event is part of the 'One Book, One Coast' initiative, which includes participation from Washington, Oregon, and California. Dr. Lily Tamai from CSU Channel Islands will lead the discussion, inspired by George Takei's memoir and graphic novel 'They Called Us Enemy.' The book recounts Takei's family's experience during their unjust incarceration during World War II. The event will feature a panel discussion on the local Japanese American community's experiences during and after the incarceration, with several libraries and organizations participating, including the County of Ventura Library and the Ventura County JACL.
