San Antonio Faces Flash Floods Amid Record Rainfall and Vehicle Recall
San Antonio experienced significant flash flooding on April 20, 2026, with rainfall totaling 4.42 inches at San Antonio International Airport, marking the third-wettest single day in April on record. Two Flash Flood Warnings were issued in the area, both categorized as 'Considerable' threats. The flooding led to swift-water rescues northeast of the airport and evacuations in Williamson County, Texas. In response to the extreme weather, Waymo voluntarily recalled 3,791 self-driving vehicles after a defect allowed one of its cars to drive into a flooded roadway. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed the recall, citing issues with the vehicles' automated driving systems during heavy rain and flooding. Waymo has since implemented software updates and operational safeguards to address the defect.
