Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar Advocates for U.S. Supervision in Venezuela's Political and Oil Transition
U.S. Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar of Florida has outlined a strategy for Venezuela that emphasizes U.S.-supervised electoral reorganization and the establishment of guarantees for local political actors. She stated that the priority should be to enable opposition forces to organize, for the National Electoral Council to be structured, and to facilitate free and fair elections with international observers backed by the United States. This approach aims to allow Venezuelans to decide their own governance. Regarding Venezuela's energy resources, Salazar argued that U.S. policies should ensure long-term commercial benefits for American corporate interests. She specifically mentioned that U.S. oil companies should benefit for the next 100 years, excluding other nations like France, Spain, or India, due to their past cooperation with the Maduro regime.
