Federal Court Questions Law Professor's Attempt to Block Judge's Appointment as Law School Dean
A federal court has expressed skepticism over Professor Ramsi Woodcock's lawsuit to prevent former U.S. District Judge Greg Van Tatenhove from becoming the dean of the University of Kentucky School of Law. Woodcock argues that appointing a judge rather than a tenured professor undermines the faculty's ability to express their scholarship as a peer-reviewed search for truth. The court, led by Judge Benjamin Beaton, noted that Woodcock has not demonstrated an exigency that would justify expedited discovery or a preliminary injunction. The court highlighted several issues with Woodcock's complaint, including the lack of evidence that the faculty's expressive rights are being violated or that Woodcock can assert such rights on behalf of the faculty.
