Turkish Aerospace Advances Kaan Fighter Program Amid US Sanctions Challenges
Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) is progressing with its Kaan fighter program, despite previous delays caused by US sanctions under the CAATSA legislation. The program is set to enter a new testing phase, with two prototypes expected to fly by the end of 2026. The Kaan fighter, powered by GE Aerospace F110 engines, faced delays due to restrictions following Turkey's purchase of the Russian S-400 air defense system. However, the US Congress has now approved the export license for the engines, allowing TAI to proceed with its plans. The first Kaan delivery is anticipated for 2028, with future models expected to incorporate locally produced engines.
