WhatsApp Account Suspensions in Israel Spark User Concerns and Backup Warnings
A wave of WhatsApp account suspensions in Israel over the weekend has caused widespread concern among users. The Israel Internet Association has advised users to back up important information stored in the app to prevent data loss in case of account suspensions. According to Yonatan Ben-Horin of the Safe Internet Hotline, the suspensions occurred after users sent messages to businesses or contacts not saved in their address books. The organization has reached out to Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, to address the issue, but has yet to receive a response. The suspensions have highlighted the dependency on WhatsApp for communication, prompting calls for users to maintain independent backups of their data.
