India's Semiconductor Expansion: $20 Billion Investment in 12 Units
India is advancing its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities with 12 units involving a $20 billion investment, as announced by Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw. Three of these units have already commenced chip production, marking a significant shift from policy formulation to actual manufacturing. The recent approval of Semicon 2.0 indicates the government's commitment to expanding manufacturing capacity and enhancing India's semiconductor ecosystem. This development follows the launch of the Semicon India program in 2022, which aimed to establish a robust policy framework and execution strategy for semiconductor production.
