US and Mexico Brace for Intense Heatwave Amidst Severe Weather in South Africa
The western parts of the United States and Mexico are preparing for an intense heatwave as a ridge of high pressure is expected to push temperatures significantly above the seasonal average. The US National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for regions in California and Arizona, with extreme heat warnings in effect for areas like Palm Springs, where temperatures could soar to 104-110°F. This heatwave is anticipated to move eastward towards the Midwest later in the week. Concurrently, South Africa is experiencing severe weather, with heavy rains and strong winds causing significant flooding and infrastructure damage in the Western and Eastern Cape regions. The South African Weather Service has issued warnings for flash flooding, mudslides, and rockfalls, with some areas receiving over 300mm of rain, leading to evacuations and power outages.
