GSA Replaces U.S. Web Design System Head with Treasury AI Engineer Amid Leadership Changes
The General Services Administration (GSA) has appointed Ryan Parker, an AI engineer from the Treasury Department, to lead the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS). This change follows the unexpected administrative leave of Anne Petersen, the long-standing leader of USWDS. Sam Corcos, the Treasury Department’s chief information officer who recently assumed multiple roles at GSA, including acting director of Technology Transformation Services, acting deputy commissioner for the Federal Acquisition Service, and acting assistant administrator for Login.gov, made the appointment. Individuals associated with USWDS have reported losing access to GitHub repositories, which restricts their coding capabilities, though Parker and Corcos retain access. GitHub records indicate that both Parker and Corcos have been making modifications to the main USWDS repository, including the integration of a Coderabbit AI code reviewer. The GSA and Treasury Department have not yet commented on the personnel changes.
