President Trump Proposes FIFA's Gianni Infantino for UN Secretary-General Role
President Trump has expressed his desire to nominate FIFA President Gianni Infantino for the position of United Nations Secretary-General. Infantino, who has developed a close relationship with Trump through the organization of the recent World Cup, is seen by Trump as a unifying figure with global respect. The current UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, is set to retire at the end of December, and Infantino would need to secure the endorsement of the 15-member Security Council, followed by confirmation by the General Assembly, to succeed him. While Infantino has not publicly expressed interest in the role, Trump believes he could be a strong candidate against other contenders, such as Chile's former president Michelle Bachelet and Argentina's Rafael Grossi.
