Governor Sanders Orders Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of WWII Veteran
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders of Arkansas has proclaimed August 7, 2026, as a day of remembrance for Technician Fifth Grade William P. Keele, a World War II veteran. Keele, who served with the 33rd Quartermaster Truck Regiment, was captured during the Bataan Death March and died in a Japanese prisoner of war camp in 1942. His remains were identified in 2019 and returned to Fort Smith, Arkansas, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors. In recognition of his service and sacrifice, Governor Sanders has ordered that both the United States and Arkansas state flags be flown at half-staff on this day.
