Court Upholds FERC Order to Expedite Clean Energy Projects, Sierra Club Celebrates
The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled in favor of the Sierra Club, affirming the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) Order 2023. This order mandates grid operators to address significant delays in interconnection queues, which have hindered the integration of clean energy projects into the electricity grid. The backlog, primarily consisting of wind, solar, and battery projects, has been attributed to poor planning and opaque study processes. Despite some grid operators attempting to bypass these reforms with 'fast track' processes favoring fossil fuels, the court's decision supports the Sierra Club's efforts to ensure a fair and expedited process for clean energy projects.
